Legendary composer Ilaiyaraaja has joined Bhavna Talwar’s Valmiki Ramayana as music director. The film, based on the ancient epic, is set for an October 2 release, with posters unveiled on Akshaya Tritiya confirming his association.

Legendary composer Ilaiyaraaja will receive the Padmapani Award at the Ajanta-Ellora International Film Festival 2026. The honour recognises his five-decade contribution to Indian cinema and music across multiple languages.

In the notice, Ilaiyaraaja claims that three of his compositions were used in the film Good Bad Ugly, starring Ajith Kumar, without his consent or payment of royalty.

It may be recalled that Isaignani Ilaiyaraaja recently became the first ever Indian to present a Western classical symphony at the Eventim Apollo theatre in London.

Rajinikanth isn’t the first to congratulate Ilaiyaraaja on this magnificent achievement. Several stars including Sivakarthikeyan and Karthi have already complimented the great music director.

Participating in an event organised to remember Bhavatharini on February 12, which was her birthday, Ilaiyaraaja said that Bhavatharini had told him that she wanted to start an orchestra.
