Basavaraj Bommai, who was elected as the new leader of the BJP legislature party last week, had taken oath as the Chief Minister on July 28.

Bommai, a mechanical engineer, became the third chief minister from Mumbai- Karnataka region after his father S.R. Bommai and Jagadish Shettar.

He said that he has submitted his resignation to the governor and the latter has asked him to continue as Interim chief minister until his successor is announced.

His announcement came at a special event organised to present the government's report card on the occasion of the completion of two years of the BJP-led state government.
