Speaking outside Sangareddy prison on Friday after meeting 16 arrested villagers, Rama Rao alleged that the arrests were politically motivated to suppress dissent. He claimed, “Innocent people are being targeted simply for supporting the BRS. The police, in collusion with Tirupati Reddy and local Congress leaders, are intimidating villagers and their families with threats of violence if they oppose them.”
The BJP MP was prevented from visiting Lagacherla village in Dudyala mandal, Vikarabad district, on Wednesday, where officials had been attacked by villagers during a public hearing on a proposed pharma village project.
A Tirupati Reddy drew flak from citizens on Wednesday after he declared that the government would not step back from acquiring lands in Lagacherla and surrounding villages for the proposed Pharma Village project.
During a press conference on Wednesday, Veerabhadram highlighted the rising unrest in the Chief Minister's home constituency, where the proposed Pharma Village project is facing strong opposition. He urged the State government to recognize that farmers are unwilling to give up their land for the project, noting that the attack on the collector and other officials by farmers was a direct result of this opposition.
BRSV state secretary Jangaiah alleged that keeping aside 12,000 acres of land already acquired during the past K Chandrashekhar Rao's government for pharma city, which was ready, Revanth Reddy was looking to grab farmers land in the name of pharma clusters.
A heavy security blanket thrown over the village to prevent further untoward incidents after Monday's attack on District Collector Prateek Jain and other officials. Internet services were also disconnected, while 55 villagers were taken into custody.
D Sridhar Babu on Tuesday alleged that the BRS was obstructing welfare and development programmes in the State and announced that a detailed enquiry would be conducted to expose the people behind the incident.
