Tension flared outside the Telangana Assembly on Wednesday as former sarpanches, under the banner of the Joint Action Committee, staged a protest demanding clearance of pending bills and regular release of State Finance Commission funds to Gram Panchayats.
The approach to treat ULBs as a homogenous group, with a one-size-fits-all model, risks limiting autonomy and widening inequalities among Indian cities
Of nearly Rs 1,380 crore pending for payment to the gram panchayats, the State government is learnt to have released only Rs 160 crore in two spells over the last six months.
Malkud Ramesh from Vikarabad, Sankepally Sudheer Reddy from Suryapet and Nehru Naik Malothu from Mahabubabad were appointed as Members of the Commission.
