Telangana government and local body schools are facing a worrying enrolment decline, with 75 per cent having 100 or fewer students. Department data shows admissions fell by over 1.25 lakh, while teachers cite infrastructure gaps, staff shortages and administrative duties.
Despite Telangana’s progress in school enrolment and educational access, child absenteeism in rural schools persists, widening learning gaps and increasing dropout rates
The department is enforcing the new attendance system for staff working in Government and Local Body Schools, Model Schools, TGRIES, KGBVs and Urban Residential Schools functioning in Peddapalli district as a pilot project. It is likely to extend to all districts.
