At least 23 people were killed after a fire swept through a packed nightclub in North Goa’s Arpora village. Eyewitnesses said the blaze began on the dance floor, trapping several tourists and staff in the kitchen amid narrow access and alleged safety violations.

According to the police, the management of the four pubs failed to adhere to Covid-19 guidelines and were allowing large gatherings on their premises. The pubs had also opened their dance floors for visitors.
