The Hyderabad Water Tankers Association called off its strike and resumed supplies after agreeing to source borewell water from outside the ORR with necessary permissions. Hydraa said it would continue efforts to curb illegal commercial groundwater extraction in high-demand localities.
Farmers in Jogulamba Gadwal district are battling a severe water crisis as falling groundwater levels and failed borewells threaten standing crops. In several villages, including Tuppatralla, farmers are spending heavily on tanker water to sustain cultivation.
The HMWSSB has declined a request from the makers of S.S. Rajamouli’s Varanasi for 150 water tankers needed for underwater shooting sequences, citing rising summer demand and inability to assure supply amid increasing pressure across Hyderabad.
The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board has warned private tanker operators against using the Water Board logo without authorisation. Officials cautioned that such misuse could mislead the public and said tanker bookings should be made only through official HMWSSB channels.
While the number of tankers at the start of April was 613, with the increase in demand, the number grew to a fleet of 840. Along with tankers, more filling stations and filling points have also been added in the last few weeks.
