Nalgonda: Agriculture Minister S Niranjan Reddy on Saturday asked the farmers to take up the cultivation of the crops including pulses as per the demand in the market.
On his way to Shaligowraram to attend an official programme, Niranjan Reddy visited vegetables farm belonging to a farmer Sathi Reddy at Chityal and interacted with him. When the minister inquired him, Sathi Reddy told that he has taken up cultivation of vegetables in 47 acres land, which include seven acres of his own land and 40 acres of leased land which was earning him Rs 80 lakhs profit every year. He was supplying the vegetables to a market in Guntur district in Andhra Pradesh.
Speaking on the occasion, Agriculture Minister said that farmers should get inspiration from Sathi Reddy and try to get more profits through cultivation. He said that food processing units would be set up in Nalgonda district to provide marketing facility to the crops produced by the farmers. He reminded that the State government has earmarked over Rs 60,000 crores in the budget for agriculture sector and welfare schemes of the farmers. The cost of crops produced in the State has increased to Rs 93,000 crores in 2021 from Rs 40,000 crores in 2014, recording 113 per cent increase. The State government has been extending investment support to 63.2 lakh farmers for a total 1.5 crore acres of land under Rythu Bandhu scheme.
He reminded that farmers of Thungathurthy and Suryapet assembly constituencies were getting the irrigation water from Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme. Crop production in erstwhile Nalgonda district would significantly increase after completion of SLBC and Dindi Lift Irrigation Scheme.
