Mumbai: Actress Tamannaah Bhatia, who stars in the recently released streaming show Do You Wanna Partner, has described her character as a hustler — impulsive and passion-driven.
The actress, speaking to IANS during the promotional campaign of the show, explained how much of herself she brought into the role, given the show’s contemporary setting.
She said: “I feel like, while the world is familiar, the people are very new in the sense that they are very contemporary girls. Their freedom and their culture are also a reflection of the current society. If you act in a period film, you reflect that time in society. So, while the background here is familiar, for me it was a very layered character to play because she’s extremely impulsive and very passion-driven. She’s a hustler basically. My character is largely a hustler. And her best friend actually is the balancing factor in her life.”
Tamannaah added that her character also becomes a voice of reason, bringing balance to the chaos.
She further said: “Like she gives her friend the fire that her character sometimes needs to be pushed in a certain direction. Our work is mostly based on nuance and I was very conscious of the fact that when we are attempting an entrepreneurial dramedy, its plot points are so outlandish that we never wanted people to see this as a frivolous show or one that just touches the top layer of female friendships.”
“I myself have very strong female friendships and felt there was little representation of them. There are a lot of scenes where I felt that the way they were written truly portrayed how women function with each other as friends,” she noted.
Do You Wanna Partner streams on Prime Video.
