Delhi Public School, Mahendra Hills has initiated a book club – “The Book Quest” to promote reading and to make the students avid readers. A virtual community of voracious book readers was created which included students from different schools from the twin cities.
The discussion forum was held virtually on October 22 on the Zoom platform. The participating students were not only from DPS, Mahendra Hills but also from various other schools. The discussion was held to talk and discuss about the book – The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain.
Vice principal Sudha spoke about the importance of reading books and welcomed the guest, Vinitha, an award-winning author. Her book Sera Learns to Fly, won the Best Children’s Book of the Year award, by FICCI, while Lost and Found in Mumbai Koliwada was shortlisted for several awards. Vinitha briefed the various facts about Mark Twain which included his pen name and what made him write the book – The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. She spoke about the characters in the book and their relevance. The children thoroughly enjoyed her talk.
The author made it an interactive session by involving students to put forward their views and questions regarding the book. Children spoke about the book, their views and the things they liked best about the book. The book reviews given by the students were indeed very impressive. The students clarified their doubts by asking the author various questions which included the language used in the book and also the references of the characters in the present generation. Indeed, it was very fruitful and informative. The event was an extravaganza where the audience dived into the world of books.
