Teachers to hold hunger strike for amendments to GO 25 on Gandhi Jayanti

Hyderabad: Demanding amendments to GO MS No. 25, government school teachers called for an indefinite hunger strike at Dharna Chowk here on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti on October 2. The order details the norms for the rationalisation of teachers based on student strength in government and local body schools across the State.

Speaking at the state-level meeting of the Telangana Secondary Grade Teachers Union (SGTU) here on Sunday, SGTU president K Mahipal Reddy demanded that the government amend GO MS No. 25 and ensure that at least two SGTs are appointed to every primary school. He said teachers should be assigned to teach and monitor primary schools at the field level instead of being sent on foreign tours.

Mahipal Reddy also demanded that the government appoint one teacher for each subject in all FLN-competent schools. He wanted the government to reduce the pay difference between SGTs and School Assistants under the new PRC and increase the HM allowance for SGTs working as headmasters in primary schools.

SGTU general secretary A Venkatesham said teachers working in primary and upper-primary schools should be given voting rights in Teacher MLC elections. He demanded the Old Pension Scheme for 2003 DSC recruits.

He wanted the government to immediately issue GOs for pending DA payments, obtain the PRC report and implement it without delay. He said all pending bills should be cleared immediately.
