Hyderabad: Team Mysa, consisting of a bunch of friends, who took to golf without any ambitions but rather for leisure and fun, are making waves on the ‘greens’. Little did they fathom that they would storm and clinch the National Amateur Golf League event held at the Boulder Hills Golf and Country Club in their maiden attempt.
Led by Madhav Kota, the 12-member team are either entrepreneurs or work in Corporate sectors. But their strong friendship turned into a strong camaraderie. Their first attempt was at the Telangana Premier League championship where they won the title. Believing in work ethics, the enthusiastic team soon carved a niche for themselves in the National League.
“We started on a right note when we won against Bengaluru. But our best win was the strong Kolkata team. That gave us the belief that we can compete against big players,’’ said Kota.
Kota further added they are a bunch of friends who want to spend a lot of time together. “Last month we participated in the Telangana Premier Golf tournament and we won that too. This event was a bigger event with teams coming from Kolkata, Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi and three teams from Hyderabad. We stuck to the same team and the strong team spirit helped us to win the title.’’
He said they train once or twice in a week. “The tournament gave us a good lift. It was highlighted in the media, both locally and nationally. This will automatically bring more people, particularly the young section of the society, to take to golf. There is a change in the mindset of the people towards golf. These types of tournaments help in developing the game. The future of Indian golf is bright.’’
Shashidhar Reddy, who won the world corporate golf challenge championship in Lisbon in 2015, said this tournament was a big boost to Hyderabad golf. Reddy was the star performer for Team Mysa.
