Hyderabad: With 12 cumulative points, Team MYSA are in a clear lead at the end of the second round of the Sreenidhi University Telangana Premier Golf League 2021 held at the Hyderabad Golf Association golf course on Thursday.
Villaggio Highlanders and Classic Champs follow closely with 11 points each.
Sponsored by Sreenidhi University and powered by Magnifiq Securities, HDFC and NMDC, the event has five qualifying rounds at league stage. The two teams qualifying from each division play in the three rounds of lKnock out/playoff matches of quarterfinals, semifinals and finals.
The second of the first five qualifying rounds was played in Doubles format on Thursday where 64 golfers from 8 teams teeing off in the morning session at 6.30 am and another 64 golfers from 8 teams teeing off at 11.30 am in the afternoon session. Though it rained intermittently, the weather was perfect for golf and saw intense competition among the teams.
The second round was keenly contested with Team MYSA, owned by Deepak Gullapalli and captained by Madhav Kota, backed by Molteni & C & Armani Dada emerging as the leader
The Villaggio Highlanders battled with the Bhagyanagar Birdies garnering four points, the highlight being the team Captain, Dr. Sameer Mahendra & partner Sanjay Gadipati winning their match 8 up with 7 holes to go.
Manoj Chawda and Akshat Goel of Classic Champs, got off to a good start, kept the momentum going, finishing with a birdie and par on holes 3 and 4 to win the match 6 up with 5 holes remaining.
MYK Strikers had a remarkable round claiming 6 points out of a total possible 8 in the second round of doubles matches. While the first pair of Vivek Chandrashekar and Rahul Rao wrapped up their match on the 13th hole, Mithun Reddy & Captain TTVR Prasad won the match on the 17th hole. A lot of drama unfolded in the last match which included Shravan/Mohan Rao. It went into the 18th hole with a one-point lead and Shravan, playing with an injured hand, made a clutch 15 feet putt to seal the win for MYK Strikers.
Team Teeoff, captained by cricketer, S.L. Venkatapathy Raju too had a good run claiming 5 points.
