Hyderabad: The changing landscape of job and work from anywhere option is pushing many employees to upskill or reskill to adapt themselves to the ever-changing environment. Taking a break from your job and doing a full-time course is a thing of the past and now many employees prefer to put in the extra effort to acquire a new skill while being employed.

On the other hand, companies are moving towards a data-driven approach and are always on the lookout for tech-savvy talent. Moving away from regular institutions, the industry is focusing on education technology (edtech) platforms to find the right talent for their emerging digital skills jobs.

“I have been working as an assistant manager for my company for the past five years and during the pandemic, I realised that my skills were not in tandem with the ever-changing sector. So, I enrolled myself in a data scientist course on an edtech platform and completed the course. Post that I have been offered a 30 per cent hike in salary and also I am due for promotion,” says Suman Kumar who is working for a large multinational company in Hyderabad.

The top preferred skillsets by companies are Python, SQL, Machine Learning, Full Stack, Cloud, and Data Sciences as many companies are moving towards technologies like Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Machine Learning, Cloud computing, and Full Stack Development.

“The top roles offered by Great Learning’s 1,200+ hiring partners for freshers were Data Analysts, Data Engineers, Software Development Engineers, while experienced professionals were able to bag roles like Data Scientist, Full Stack Developer, Cloud Architect, AIML specialist, BI Developer, and Digital Marketing Specialists,” says Hari Krishna Nair, co-founder, Great Learning.

Nair also mentioned that sectors like IT and ITeS lead the hiring spree with 40 per cent placements followed by BFSI with 18 per cent placements while consulting and telecom hired 10 per cent and 8 per cent respectively.

The online course offered by edtech platforms not only help mid-level career and senior professionals get hikes and promotions but also help freshers gain higher packages when compared to their peers. “The salary packages offered on Great Learning Excelerate were indicative of the premium that corporations are willing to pay for any professionals who are equipped with digital skills and fit in today’s job market,” Nair says.

Freshers with 0-3 years of experience were offered median salary packages of Rs 6.5 lakh which is almost 80 per cent higher than the average package at this level. For mid-career (3 to 8 years of experience) and senior professionals (8+ years of experience), companies rolled out packages ranging from Rs 6 lakh to Rs 32 lakh.
