Warangal: Noted researcher, academician, and Vice-Chancellor, Hyderabad Central University (HCU), Prof Basuthkar Jagadeeshwar Rao, popularly known as B J Rao, has said that technology had completely transformed human life, and urged the students to acquire the skills, deep knowledge in science and technology. “Don’t limit yourself and expand your understanding and learning which indeed occurs outside the classrooms after the classes,” he said.
Addressing a gathering of the students of schools, Intermediate and Degree at the inaugural of ceremony of the Science Week Festival at the National Institute of Technology (NIT), Warangal, here on Tuesday, he said: “Be yourself and be original and find your own purpose in you and go ahead”. Later, he also inaugurated the EXPO exhibition, book exhibition, science experiments exhibition by various school students and forest department exhibition.
NITW Director, Prof NV Ramana Rao stressed the importance of science and its impact on Indian economy, culture and society. He also said technological development seen in diverse fields is because of advancement of science which has a specific role and variety of functions for the benefit of society. He also pointed out that public understanding and engaging with science and citizen participation including the popularization of science is essential to equip citizens to make informed personal and professional choices. Rao said that in this connection NITW has taken an initiative as an outreach and community service under SCoPE to translate many scientific ideas into local language to distribute to the masses and to arrange Expo exhibitions on Science and scientists. To celebrate and commemorate the glorious history of people, culture and achievements of progressive India as well as to create awareness among the Telugu people in their regional language about the fields of science and technology, Science Week Festival has started grandly at the NIT along with 74 other locations across the nation.
This programme came into reality as a part of mission project “Science Communication Popularization and Extension (ScoPE) by Vigyan Prasar under DST Vigyan Prasar has chosen NIT, Warangal to monitor the project headed by Prof K Laxma Reddy, a senior professor of Chemistry at NITW. Prof A Ramachandraiah aka ARC, a retired professor of Chemistry, is the coordinator of the project.
The event highlighted science movies, science magic and science experiments demonstration, poster exhibition of biography of scientists. Visitors have appreciated the NITW stating that all the programmes were so designed meticulously to enhance students’ interest in science. In the post lunch session, the students watched the online live inaugural function of Science Week Festival from Delhi.
