Jagtial: A 17-year-old boy was taken into custody for attempting to rape a six-year-old girl in Thummenala village of Dharmapuri mandal on Thursday.

According to the police, the teenager from Nerella had recently come to vist his grandparents who live in Thummenala. When the girl, who happened to be his cousin, was all alone, he allegedly attempted to molest her.

When the girl raised an alarm, neighbours rushed to the spot and rescued her. Based on a complaint lodged by her parents, the police registered a case and sent the girl to hospital for medical examination.
