Telangana: 17-year-old student dies after fall at Mancherial college
A 17-year-old Intermediate student, Kothapelli Shirisha, died after allegedly falling from her college building in Karimnagar. Her parents blame the college for negligence. The case follows two recent student suicide incidents in Mancherial, prompting renewed focus on hostel safety and student well-being
Mancherial: A 17-year-old girl who sustained injuries on Tuesday evening after allegedly falling from a private junior college building died while being shifted to a hospital in Karimnagar last night.
According to police, Kothapelli Shirisha, a second-year Intermediate BiPC student at the college, suffered injuries to her legs and hands after she reportedly slipped from the stairs around 8 pm. She was initially taken to a hospital in Mancherial but referred to Karimnagar when her condition deteriorated. She died en route to the hospital around 10 pm.
Shirisha hailed from Luxettipet town and was the eldest daughter of Ramesh. Her parents have alleged that negligence by the college management led to her death.
However, sources said Shirisha was unwilling to stay in the hostel and may have taken the extreme step. She appeared gloomy ever since she was dropped off at the hostel on Tuesday afternoon. She had previously vacated a hostel run by another private college in Karimnagar last year and had recently joined the current institution.
The incident comes weeks after two other student suicides were reported at Telangana Social Welfare Residential Degree College (TSRDC) for Girls in Mancherial.
On June 24 night, Kummari Swapna (19), a degree student, sustained critical injuries after allegedly jumping off her hostel building. She died while undergoing treatment at a Hyderabad hospital on June 27.
Earlier, on April 24, another second-year degree student from TSRDC, Laxmi Prasanna (19), died during treatment after allegedly jumping off her hostel building. Her death triggered public outrage, with her family members staging a protest seeking justice. Prasanna was a native of Jaggayyapet village in Bheemini mandal.
