Hyderabad: Telangana artisans and craftsmen are playing a key role in the ongoing Hunar Haat exhibition at NTR Stadium, Indira Park.
The event has more than 300 stalls set up from different parts of the country and different types of cuisines are available to taste.
Stall number 6 in Hunar Haat food court is owned by Mohammad Joheb of Hyderabad. He runs a fried chicken business and had set up stalls at Dehradun, Lucknow, Surat, and Puducherry before moving to Hyderabad.
“I’m glad that I’m able to take Hyderabadi cuisine to other states and cities. With frequent opportunities to set up a food stall at the Hunar Haat expo, my earnings increased and I was able to pay off my debts,” he said.
Like Joheb, Mohammad Arif is taking Hyderabadi Biryani to places. This is the fourth time he is setting up a stall at Hunar Haat and the first time in the city.
Not just food stalls, the expo has turned into a platform for craftsmen to showcase and sell their products. Stall number 39 belongs to Saraswati of Telangana’s Karimnagar. She is selling leather bags and wallets that are made by hand.
“This is the second time I’m participating in the Hunar Haar expo. The response is amazing. The event has definitely provided earning potential for me,” she said.
Some artisans and craftsmen have set up stalls here for the first time. Padma’s stall number 33 in Hunar Haat food court is catching attention of every visitor. The 39-year-old is associated with a women’s group of 10 members in Ranga Reddy district and is selling organic food including papadas, the long-standing favourite of many, here.
Like Padma, Swati from Rangareddy and Balaji Jadhav from the city are also taking part in Hunar Haat for the first time. While stall number 126 belongs to Swati, stall no. 246 is allotted to Balaji. The duo is selling jewelry made of Hyderabadi pearls.
On the whole, over 700 artisans and craftsmen from more than 30 states and UTs with rich traditional offerings are participating in the expo, which is on till March 6. For entertainment, there is a circus and also a line-up of cultural and musical programmes by several popular artists.
