Hyderabad: Unprecedented move by the BJP government at the Centre to take control of irrigation projects on both Krishna and Godavari basins, the Centre’s refusal to procure paddy beyond 60 lakh tonnes, GST dues to the State, Covid-19 situation and ramping up of health infrastructure and the implementation of Telangana Dalit Bandhu are among the subjects that are likely to hold centre-stage in the Monsoon session of the Telangana State Legislature commencing Friday.

The government is also expected to make a statement on the recent incident related to rape and murder of a six-year-old in Saidabad, besides steps taken to contain Covid-19 and vaccine administration in the State. Another subject that is likely to crop up is the podu lands issue which Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao is keen on resolving.

Ministers and officials have been asked to be prepared to answer all the questions raised by the opposition as also be up to date on important issues that are likely to come up for discussion.

At least eight to nine Bills or Ordinances are expected to get ratification in the Assembly. The opposition parties may seek clarification on the proposal to increase TSRTC ticket fares and power charges besides the implementation of Dalit Bandhu scheme.

The treasury benches can be expected to speak strongly on the step-motherly treatment meted out to Telangana State by the Centre on various fronts. Despite repeated pleas and writing several letters to Krishna River Management Board (KRMB) on violations committed by Andhra Pradesh in illegally diverting Krishna River water, nothing concrete has been done to stop it. The procurement of paddy is also a bone of contention between the Centre and State. In fact, the Chief Minister is leaving for New Delhi after the first day’s session to take up the issue with the Centre.

The opposition, which has been crying hoarse about the implementation of ambitious Dalit Bandhu scheme aimed at economic empowerment of Dalits in the State, is likely to raise the issue. The government, on its part, is expected to explain how it intends to implement the scheme in phases that would ultimately cover the entire State. The demand for similar schemes to other communities may also be raised by the opposition. A major announcement can be expected on government’s moves to come to the rescue of children orphaned by the death of both parents due to Covid-19.
