Telangana Assembly passes resolution seeking caste census

Hyderabad: Telangana Legislative Assembly on Friday unanimously passed a resolution seeking caste wise census of the Backward Class to be conducted while holding the general census for 2021.
Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao introduced the resolution in the Assembly after question hour. He said BCs constitute nearly 50 per cent of Telangana’s population and various political parties and State Assembly’s in the country had passed resolutions seeking caste census.
While introducing the resolution, the Chief Minister said in view of the upliftment of poorer sections of the society, it was necessary to maintain accurate statistics for taking up various welfare measures for benefitting the poorest of the poor.
“Telangana Legislative Assembly with a view to ensure BCs welfare, urges the Central Government that caste wise census of the Backward Class be conducted while holding the general census for 2021,” said Chandrashekhar Rao.
