Hyderabad: With aesthetic paintings and pictures including child-friendly cartoons, animals, moral values and historical structures, the walls, floors and doors and windows in government and local body schools will soon turn into learning material for students.
The school buildings are being turned into learning aid under the Mana Ooru-Mana Badi/Mana Basti-Mana Badi programme, a flagship initiative of the State government for comprehensive development and strengthening of infrastructure facilities in government and local body schools.
Walls, floors, windows, doors, ceilings, corridors, furniture, outdoor space, compound walls, staircase, platforms in playgrounds and exterior walls facing the entrance of the school will sport aesthetic pictorial paintings as part of BaLA or Building as Learning Aid concept, which is expected to improve quality of education in schools.
The paintings will feature child-friendly cartoons, animals and nature, historical structures and eminent persons including scientists, sportspersons, athletics and freedom fighters. This apart, charts of world and nation will also be painted.
Besides being child-friendly, the concept will aid in activity-based teaching-learning in schools. The content for BaLA has been prepared by the School Education Department. There will be a common colour code which will be prescribed at the State-level and should be followed for all schools included in the programme.
Under the programme, a total of 26,065 schools including 18,240 primary, 3,164 upper primary and 4,661 high schools across the State will get a makeover in a phased manner over a period of three years from 2021-22 at an estimated cost of Rs 7,289.54 crore. Of the total 9,123 schools that will be revamped in the first phase, 5,399 are primary schools, 1,009 are upper primary schools and 2,715 are high schools across the State.
