Hyderabad: Government and local body school students may commence their day with a glass of milk at their respective institutions from the next academic year. The School Education department has recently sent a proposal seeking approval from the government to provide milk to students studying in its institutions.
As per the proposal, a student will be served 150 ml of milk thrice a week. This will be provided on the days when ragi malt is not served to students as part of their breakfast. The idea is to procure tetra milk packets, which have a longer shelf life than regular milk, and provide them to students. Presently, ragi malt is being served thrice a week.
“We have obtained information from Telangana Dairy Development Co-Operative Federation Limited for procuring Vijaya tetra milk packets for providing milk to students of Classes I to XII studying in government, local body, Model Schools, KGBVs and TGWREIS institutions. We have not decided whether to mix the milk with a supplement like Boost or Horlicks or just serve it with sugar,” a senior official said.
In addition, the department has proposed breakfast for government and local body school students from the next academic year. A centralised kitchen is being explored to cook the breakfast and then transport it to the schools.
