Telangana braces for protests over NEET issue and job demands
BRS Working President KT Rama Rao has decided not to celebrate his 50th birthday, citing the crackdown on students in New Delhi and drought-like conditions in Telangana. He urged supporters to spend money on service activities instead of birthday celebrations.
Hyderabad: This Friday, Telangana is set for a day of protests as left-affiliated student organisations have called for the shutdown of all educational institutions over incidents linked to the NEET UG paper leak issue, while the BRSV has announced a massive protest at Dharna Chowk.
On the other hand, unemployed youth have also announced a State-wide bandh, demanding that the Congress government fulfil its Assembly election promises, including recruitment to two lakh vacancies.
Ever since Delhi Police lathi-charged students during the ‘Chalo Sansad March’ over the NEET UG paper leak, university campuses have been witnessing a series of protests condemning the ‘brutal attack’ on protesters. Student organisations have also called for the shutdown of educational institutions across the State.
Apart from demanding a transparent inquiry into the incidents in Delhi, the SFI, AISF, NSUI, PDSU, AIFDS, AIDSO, AISB and AIPSU have sought the resignation of the Union Education Minister over the paper leak issue. They also demanded that the Central government abolish the National Testing Agency and withdraw the proposed Viksit Bharat Shiksha Adhishthan Bill 2025.
Joining the protests are unemployed youth, who have been hitting the streets over the last few months demanding that the government immediately notify all vacancies for recruitment.
The Police Job Aspirants JAC also sought the revocation of GO 46 and demanded that appointments be made in a transparent manner. They also wanted the government to increase vacancies in police recruitment.
Meanwhile, protests condemning the police attack on students fighting for justice in Delhi continued on the OU campus on Thursday. Protesters alleged that the Central government was branding students fighting against examination paper leaks and demanding social justice as “anti-nationals”. The university students extended their support to their counterparts in Delhi.
