Hyderabad: BRS leader Manne Govardhan Reddy on Sunday lashed out at Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy for failing as the Municipal Administration Minister and neglecting urban infrastructure, which led to flooding of several areas in Hyderabad due to heavy rain. He said waterlogging had reached such a stage that even bridges and flyovers were inundated due to poor maintenance work.
“The advantages Hyderabad gained before 2023 over 10 years have been reversed under the Congress regime. While the K Chandrashekhar Rao government spent Rs 50,000 crore for urban infrastructure development under Strategic Road Development Programme (SRDP) to keep traffic in check, Revanth Reddy’s negligence in maintaining them has brought back the old problems,” he charged.
Speaking at Telangana Bhavan, Govardhan Reddy called out the lack of coordination between the GHMC and HYDRAA, leading to waterlogging near drains and, subsequently, traffic jams. He said neither organisation initiated advanced monsoon preparedness activities like clearing of drains.
“The Chief Minister is passing time with his regular rhetoric against the BRS, rather than taking measures as Municipal Administration Minister,” he said, warning that the Congress would suffer defeat in local body polls if Hyderabad’s development was ignored.
He also found fault with the government for merely distributing units built under BRS’s tenure, with no progress on new construction despite promises of four lakh houses a year. He also questioned the partisan allocation of ration cards, where only 53,000 new ration cards were issued in Hyderabad.
