Hyderabad: The data entry for Telangana’s recently conducted comprehensive caste census has been completed, with officials set to submit a draft report in the next two days. Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has directed officials to present the final report to the Cabinet Sub-Committee by February 2.
The Socio-Economic Education Employment Political Caste Survey 2024 or Comprehensive Household Survey, launched on November 6, covered 1.16 crore families across the State. Over one lakh personnel, including enumerators and supervisors, carried out the door-to-door survey, which concluded in the first week of December. Officials confirmed that data was successfully collected from 96 per cent of households, while some families were left out due to non-availability or refusal to participate.
The State Cabinet took a decision on February 4 last year, to conduct the survey and collect data for the proposed caste census, followed by an Assembly resolution on February 16. A Cabinet sub-committee, led by Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy, was formed on September 12 to oversee the survey process. On October 10, the Planning department, designated as the nodal agency, issued G.O. No. 18 detailing the survey’s procedures.
Revanth Reddy who held a review meeting on the issue, said the comprehensive survey would serve as a crucial tool for caste census and also social empowerment, aiding policy decisions for BC, SC, ST, minorities, and weaker sections. The collected data will also support the BC Dedicated Commission in shaping welfare measures.
