Hyderabad: The Telangana Crime Investigation Department (CID) has registered three criminal cases into alleged diversion of Sanna Rakam paddy and substitution with cheaper coarse rice meant for delivery to the Food Corporation of India (FCI) during the Kharif 2025–26 season. Fourteen rice millers have been arrested.
According to officials, certain millers allegedly diverted the fine-quality Sanna Rakam paddy allotted to them to the open market and supplied cheaper Doddu Rakam rice instead. Some of the coarse rice was allegedly sourced from outside Telangana, raising concerns over the quality and authenticity of supplies made under the Custom Milled Rice (CMR) agreement.
In Nizamabad, Karimnagar and Mulugu districts, 16 rice mills allegedly delivered 3,385.820 metric tonnes of Doddu Rakam rice against Sanna Rakam allotments. The estimated loss to the government through bonus payments was Rs. 1.69 crore.
The CID registered the cases following a complaint by the Civil Supplies Corporation’s General Manager (Procurement) on October 24. The probe is covering the alleged diversion, the role of millers and officials, possible conspiracy and the actual financial loss to the government.
