Hyderabad: With torrential rains lashing across the State, Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao has asked the State administration to be in a state of high alert and directed the officials concerned to take all measures to safeguard people. He asked the entire State government machinery including the District Collectors to remain vigilant and take timely action to prevent loss of lives and property.

The Chief Minister who is currently stationed in New Delhi to meet the Union Ministers on various pending issues pertaining to Telangana State, held a teleconference with the officials and reviewed the flood situation in the State in the wake of heavy rains. He spoke to Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar over phone and issued instructions on the measures to be taken.

As several streams and rivulets are in full spate due to the heavy downpour, Chandrashekhar Rao asked the officials to remain alert in all the rain-affected urban and rural areas in order to avoid any inconvenience to the people. He wanted the officials and employees of Municipal Administration, Panchayat Raj, Roads and Buildings and Electricity departments to constantly monitor the local conditions and take appropriate measures to ensure there are no hindrances for public services like electricity, roads and drainage canals.

With several irrigation projects and tanks in the State overflowing at some places due to massive flooding, the Chief Minister directed the officials to take preventive measures and shift the people living in low-lying areas to safer places. He asked the Chief Secretary to make contingency plans and take relief measures in the flood prone areas.

He wanted the Irrigation department officials to remain alert. In the wake of the weather warnings, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State DRF teams have been deployed to rescue those who got stuck in flood-hit areas and are at risk. He directed all the elected representatives to stay in their respective constituencies and coordinate with the government machinery to ensure that the people were safe and are not facing any troubles.

Chandrashekhar Rao also urged people in rain-affected and flood-prone areas to be safe and not venture out of their homes in the wake of incessant rains. People were appealed to cooperate with the officials and follow their instructions in case of inundation of their areas.
