Telangana Congress MLAs face heat for defying party line, disciplinary action likely

Hyderabad: Congress MLAs and senior leaders appear to be openly disregarding the party’s internal directives, with the Telangana leadership expressing serious concern over the increasing instances of indiscipline.
Despite clear instructions not to approach the high command over individual issues, discuss internal matters in public, or engage in verbal spats with fellow party members, several leaders have flouted the norms.
The ongoing war of words between Warangal MLAs and the Konda family is a glaring example. Similarly, former MLA Mynampally Hanumanth Rao’s interference in Gajwel constituency affairs has irked party leadership.
Reports suggest that Mynampally went so far as to criticise Congress MLAs, alleging that the public no longer trusted them due to the government’s failure in fulfilling promises.
Acknowledging the brewing dissent, TPCC Disciplinary Committee chairman and Nagarkurnool MP Mallu Ravi confirmed that complaints had been received against the conduct of certain MLAs and leaders.
“Any kind of indiscipline, especially comments on party decisions, will not be tolerated,” he said, adding that after consultations with AICC incharge Meenakshi Natarajan, stern action would be initiated regardless of the position held by the individuals concerned.
Adding to the concerns, some MLAs have bypassed the State leadership and directly approached the high command seeking cabinet berths. On Saturday, Parigi MLA Rammohan Reddy met AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge and sought a cabinet post. Previously, Ibrahimpatnam MLA Malreddy Rangareddy and a few others had also held meetings with AICC leaders in New Delhi for similar demands.
In view of the growing indiscipline, Meenakshi Natarajan has directed Mallu Ravi to convene a meeting of the TPCC Disciplinary Committee on Tuesday at Gandhi Bhavan.
The meeting will deliberate on a range of issues, including verbal confrontations among MLAs and repeated violations of party rules by certain leaders.
