Khammam: Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has been planning to destroy the cooperative system in Telangana by nominating Congress party workers to cooperative societies, alleged the CPI (M)-affiliated Telangana Rythu Sangham.
The Sangham district secretary Bonthu Rambabu has demanded the State government to withdraw its plan to nominate chairpersons and members to cooperative societies. He informed that the Sangham has plans to stage protests across the district from December 27 onwards against the government’s decision.
He said the governing bodies of the societies, which were collectively run by farmers, have until now been elected by farmer members through elections. Abandoning the practice would be detrimental to the cooperative system.
Rambabu called for making the farmers’ protest at the society offices a success. He said that fixing electricity meters for agriculture pump-sets would affect farmers and Telangana state government should reject the Central government’s electricity reform circular.
He also demanded that the pending bonus of Rs 63 crore for fine variety paddy should be paid to the farmers of Khammam district for the Rabi season along with the compensation for chilli farmers whose crops were damaged.
