Hyderabad: Telangana has surpassed the average cumulative monsoon rainfall of 720.5 mm (from June 1 to September 30), recording 733.7 mm on August 31, a full month before the current rainy season comes to an end. Rains continued to lash several districts for the third consecutive day on Tuesday, resulting in overflowing streams and irrigation projects brimming with water.
The State’s average rainfall on Tuesday was 19.8mm against the normal of 8.4mm. Twelve mandals across the State recorded over 100 mm rainfall with Kuntala in Nirmal district recording 195.2 mm rainfall till 8 am on Tuesday.
After its onset in the State on June 5, the southwest monsoon has been active. The cumulative rainfall from June 1 to August 31 was 733.7 mm this rainy season against the normal rainfall of 592.7 mm during the corresponding period, registering an increase of 24 per cent.
Of the 594 mandals, 99 received large excess rainfall (over 60 per cent), 252 mandals received excess rainfall (between 20 to 59 per cent), 217 mandals received normal rainfall and 26 mandals recorded deficit rainfall.
Meanwhile, moderate to heavy rains continued to occur in various parts of the State. In some places, overflowing streams and rain water entered low-lying areas.
In Rajanna Sircilla, a TSRTC bus which was stuck in Manair stream on the Gambiraopet–Lingannapet route on Monday was swept away on Tuesday morning following heavy inflows from upstream.
As per the Telangana State Development Planning Society report till 4 pm, Kammarpally in Nizamabad received 79.5 mm rainfall, followed by Mallapur in Jagitial (63 mm) and Maddutla in Jagitial (60.5 mm).
Officials said light to moderate rains or thundershowers are expected in many places with heavy rain forecast in isolated places in the State on Wednesday.
