Warangal: A Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) head constable opened fire with his automatic weapon killing his immediate superior and later tried to end his life by turning the weapon against himself on Sunday morning.
The seriously injured head constable was rushed to the MGM hospial in Warangal, while Sub-Inspector Umesh Chandra died on the spot, reports said.
The constable, identified as Stephen, suffered a bullet injury on his head as he tried to end his life with the same weapon he used against Sub-Inspector Umesh Chandra. His condition, though critical, was stated to be critical, according to hospital sources,
There was some dispute between both of them in respect of duty roster, it was said. The CRPF team was posted to Telangana was camping on the Venkatapuram police station premises.
While Umesh Chandra hailed from Bihar, Stephen was from Kanya Kumari. The Mulugu SP issued a terse statement on Sunday morning stating that an inquiry was on. Suv-Inspector Umesh Chandra died instantly as two bullets pierced through his stomach and another through his head, reports said.
A company of CRPF 39th batallion was posted to Mulugu district and this CRPF team was posted at Venkatapuram police station, which borders Chhattisgarh state. The CRPF has been active in Telangana border areas in view of the Maoist movement.
