Telangana: DCA raids two clinics operated by quacks, seizes illegal stocks of drugs

Drug inspectors raid facilities in Wanaparthy and Narayanpet of two individuals who were practicing medicine by falsely claiming that they were allopathic practitioners

Hyderabad: The Drugs Control Administration (DCA), Telangana conducted raids on two clinics operated by quacks in Wanaparthy and Narayanpet districts and seized illegal stocks of drugs that were stored for sale.

Based on specific alerts, drug inspectors from DCA raided the facilities of two individuals who were practicing medicine by falsely claiming that they were allopathic practitioners.

The first raid was conducted at a clinic that was operated by an unqualified medical practitioner (quack) Md Nawaj Miya at Pangal mandal, Wanaparthy district. The TSDCA authorities seized 28 different varieties of medicines that were illegally stored for sale.

The second raid was conducted on a clinic operated by Batti Srinivas Goud, Nidugurthy village, Narayanpet district, where DCA seized 30 varieties of medicines, stocked illegally for sale.

During the course of the raids, the TSDCA officials detected several higher generation antibiotics and steroids at the clinics during the raids and in the process seized stocks worth a total of Rs 55,000.

The Drugs Control Administration, Telangana, issues drug licences for the stocking and selling of medicines in accordance with the provisions of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act and stocking drugs for sale without a drug license is punishable under the Act, with imprisonment for up to five years, DG, DCA, V B Kamalasan Reddy said.

Public may report any suspected manufacturing activity related to drugs, including narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, in residential, commercial, or industrial areas, as well as any other complaints regarding illegal activities concerning medicines, through the Drugs Control Administration, Telangana Toll-Free Number 1800-599-6969, which is operational from 10:30 am to 5 pm on all working days.
