Hyderabad: After cutting down on paddy procurement from Telangana, the Centre continued its discrimination in supply the required quantity of fertilisers to the State. As against the required 6.4 lakh tonnes of fertilisers during October and November, the Centre allotted only 3.67 lakh tonnes. Of this, only 1.55 lakh tonnes have been supplied which could trigger a shortage of fertilisers in the State.
Urging the Centre to take up the issue as a priority, Agriculture Minister S Niranjan Reddy wrote a letter to Union Minister for Fertilizers and Chemicals Mansukh Mandaviya to take immediate steps to ensure timely supply of fertilisers as per the State’s requirements. He pointed out that the State government had written a letter in September, seeking monthly supplies of fertilisers in accordance with the requirement.
The Centre has allotted 20.5 lakh tonnes of various types of fertilizers to the State for Yasangi (Rabi) season. Though the State required 6.4 lakh tonnes of fertilisers during October and November, the Centre allotted only 3.67 lakh tonnes. Out of this, only 1.55 lakh tonnes were supplied so far. “Even as per the original allocation made by the Centre, Telangana is yet to receive 2.12 lakh tonnes,” Niranjan Reddy said.
The Agriculture minister requested that Telangana may be supplied fertilisers from vessels which have arrived from other countries. He demanded that 23,000 tonnes of urea be supplied from the ‘Western Singapore’ vessel berthed at Gangavaram Port. He also urged the Union Minister to allott 30,000 tonnes of Di-ammonium Phosphate (DAP) from the vessels of RCF, Chambal Fertilisers and also imported stocks of IPL Fertilizers at Kakinada and Visakhapatnam ports. He also sought the Central government to allott two additional rakes of urea from KRIBHCO company. He stated that against minimum supply of 20,000 tonnes of urea every month, KRIBHCO had allotted only 3,000 tonnes for November month.
As per the month-wise assessed requirements which were already communicated to the Department of Fertilisers, Niranjan Reddy said the shortfall in supplies during October and November should be met along with the supplies scheduled from December to March.
