Hyderabad: Government doctors in Telangana on Tuesday asserted that the post of Vice-Chancellor for Kaloji Narayana Rao University of Health Sciences (KNRUHS) must be entrusted to a qualified senior doctor drawn from the medical fraternity.
Opposing a proposal by the State government to appoint a senior IAS officer as VC of the Health University, the Telangana Government Doctors Association (TGGDA), which represents government doctors in Telangana, on Tuesday, expressed deep concern over the development.
As per recent reports, the State Government is considering appointing an IAS officer as VC of KNRUHS. We express our deep concern over such proposals. Eminent medical professionals have always led Health Universities across the country, and any deviation from this tradition will adversely impact medical education, academic standards, and institutional autonomy, the TGGDA in a press release said.
It is unfortunate and disappointing that despite Telangana State having many honest, capable, and academically distinguished doctors, such deserving professionals are being overlooked.
The State has numerous senior doctors with integrity, teaching excellence, and proven administrative experience who can lead KNRUHS transparently and effectively, TGGDA said.
TGGDA has urged the State Government to uphold fairness and ensure that the VC post is given to a doctor, safeguarding the credibility of health universities and the future of medical education in Telangana.
