Telangana: Farmers cautioned against stubble burning
Agriculture Minister Thummala Nageshwar Rao on Wednesday wanted Agriculture officials to work in coordination with farmers' bodies to address the issue of stubble burning before it turned detrimental to life.
Hyderabad: Highlighting the adverse effects of burning crop residues immediately after harvest operations, Agriculture Minister Thummala Nageshwar Rao on Wednesday wanted Agriculture officials to work in coordination with farmers’ bodies to address the issue of stubble burning before it turned detrimental to life.
Engaging with farmers at paddy purchase centres and cotton markets through a video conference from the Secretariat, the Minister said the government was focusing on measures to prevent damage from stubble burning, as it would have a serious impact in the long run.
He explained that the practice, gaining ground in different districts, would reduce the organic carbon in the soil and lead to soil infertility over time. He urged officials to raise awareness among farmers about the benefits of allowing crop residues to decompose naturally in the soil.
He also addressed farmers from Adilabad, Warangal, Khammam, and Nagarkurnool, discussing cotton procurement issues.
