Kothagudem: Telangana State Food Commission Chairman K Tirumal Reddy visited agency villages in Cherla and Dummugudem mandals on Friday. He along with members R Sharada and M Bharathi inspected Anganwadi centres, ration shops and supply of mid-day meals in the schools and health services at primary health centres.
Speaking to the media the official said steps were taken for the effective implementation of Food Security Act 2013, which could help improve the health of children, women and those suffering from anemia in rural areas.
He said mid-day meal was an important aspect of the government schools system as it ensures nutritious food to children while Anganwadi centres were supposed to look after nutritional needs of pregnant women, lactating mothers and children. Tirumal Reddy noted that getting food was a constitutional right under the constitutional Article 21. He advised the officials to take proper care for distributing food to the children in all the Anganwadi centres and schools.
The team inspected stock and store rooms in all the centres and expressed satisfaction on the works of the teachers. The government has been supplying sufficient food stocks to all the schools and Anganwadi centres to feed children. Additional Collector K Venkateshwarlu, Deputy Director (Tribal Welfare) Ramadevi, District Rural Development Officer G Madhusudhan Raju, District Education Officer E Somashekara Sharma and others were present.
