Hyderabad: Within a week of Kerala-based apparel giant Kitex Group announcing a Rs 1,000 crore investment at Kakatiya Mega Textile Park, the State government has begun training of manpower that will be required by the textile player. Industries Principal Secretary Jayesh Ranjan confirmed that training was being facilitated by the State’s Textile Department.
Kitex Managing Director Sabu M Jacob, who visited the State last week, announced that his company would invest Rs 1,000 crore to set up textile units at KMTP. He also hinted at increasing the investment in the future.
This investment will generate employment of 4000 jobs in Telangana. The State government had assured that it will play a role of enabler and ensure that the company does not face any problem with respect to finding skilled manpower and other aspects.
Jacob had said he will be visiting Hyderabad soon to discuss key matters with the government. Industries Minister K T Rama Rao, who played a key role in getting the Kitex project to the State, said he would accompany the company delegation to Warangal and bring the officials concerned for discussions on the project.
On Thursday, a Kerala-based journalist tweeted: “Telangana Govt has started recruitment of skilled workers for Kitex Apparel Park Project coming up at Telangana.” He mentioned Kitex, Kerala and Telangana in his tweet. Sharing a picture, he said in the tweet: “Kitex shared this pic and Kitex chairman Sabu welcomed Govt’s effort in making things happen fast. Do all things happen this fast in Telangana!!!!!” Ranjan explained that it was not recruitment but facilitating training.
“We are facilitating training of people in this direction. People selected are from Warangal, Kazipet, Adilabad and other areas that have textile clusters. They are looking at people with garmenting and knitting experience,” an official said, without quantifying the number of people being trained.
