Suryapet: A girl died after allegedly consuming a potion prepared by a sorcerer at a dargah located near Gandhi Nagar in Suryapet district on Tuesday to cure her of her sickness.
According to police, Pallapu Sravani, who was suffering from ill health for the last four days, was brought to the dargah by her parents on Monday evening to meet a sorcerer there for remedy. Jakkali Bixapathi, who was camping at the dargah, was cheating people claiming he had magic powers to remove the effects of witchcraft. The girl’s father, Pallapu Durgaiah, alleged that Bixapathi had given his daughter a potion made with leaf extracts, lemon and milk.
After consuming the potion, Sravani, along with their parents, spent the night at the dargah. “On Tuesday morning, we found Sravani dead,” he said and alleged that his daughter died due to the potion given by the sorcerer.
On getting information, Suryapet Rural police rushed to the place and shifted the body to the area hospital of Suryapet for autopsy. Based on the complaint lodged by Sravani’s father, the police filed a case and took up an investigation. After the incident, Bixapathy fled from the spot.
