Telangana Govt urges flu patients to avoid public places as temperatures plunge
In the advisory, Dr. B Ravinder Nayak, the Director of Public Health (DPH) of Telangana, also urged people to avoid crowded places, maintain a safe distance from individuals with flu symptoms, and stay at home to limit contact with others if they are feeling unwell.
Hyderabad: With the weather department in Hyderabad forecasting a drop in temperatures in the next five days, the State health department on Friday in an advisory has urged people with flu/influenza like infection to stay away from public places.
Individuals with chronic medical conditions (such as chronic cardiac, pulmonary, renal, metabolic, neurodevelopmental, liver or hematologic diseases) and individuals with immunosuppressive conditions/treatments (such as HIV, receiving chemotherapy or steroids, or malignancy) have to consult a doctor, he said.
The advisory has urged people to look out for warning signs that include high fever, difficulty in breathing, blue colour of skin or lips, blood in sputum or altered behavior should consult doctor immediately at nearest government health facility without any delay.
The advisory has urged people to cover mouth and nose with the handkerchief or tissue paper while coughing/ sneezing, washing hands often with soap and water, avoid touching eyes, nose, mouth, avoiding crowded places; stay away for more than an arm’s length from persons afflicted with flu.
Avoid spitting in public places and the practice of taking medicines (self-medication) without consulting the physician, the DPH said.
