Hyderabad: Justice Abhinand Kumar Shavili of the Telangana High Court on Monday directed the Medical Council of India (MCI) to exempt overseas Indian citizens from appearing for NEET scheduled on September 12.
The judge made the order in a writ plea filed by Sulaiman Javed seeking one year exemption from NEET or for appearing online. Sagarika K, appearing for the petitioner, argued that the travel ban imposed by Saudi Arabia made it impractical for the petitioner to travel to Dubai or India and would put him to irreparable loss if not exempted.
The counsel for Medical Council of India contended that the sanctity of exams would be lost if conducted online and vehemently refused to exempt the petitioner from appearing for the exam in view of the pandemic. Since it is a prerequisite for candidates who are taking admission in a foreign institute/university pursuing foreign medical qualification for which possessing the NEET qualification is mandatory.
However, considering the Delta variant and the quarantine regulations imposed by various countries, the Medical Council of India was directed by the judge to issue a Public Notice within three days directing the petitioner to draft an undertaking that he will be taking NEET 2022 and disposed of the matter.
Govt told to respond on crop loss
A two-judge panel of the Telangana High Court comprising Acting Chief Justice MS Ramachandra Rao and Justice T Vinod on Monday sought the response of the government over complaints on the failure of the State government to enumerate and assess the extensive crop damage that occurred across the State due to incessant rains in September and October 2020. The panel posted a PIL filed by Vissa Kiran Kumar to September 11. The petitioner also sought extension of compensation in the form of agriculture input subsidy to all the affected farmers in the State and to notify crop insurance scheme taking adequate steps to enable the farmers across Telangana. The panel directed the Advocate General and the counsel representing the Central government to be present on September 11 with instructions in the matter.
‘Fresh challans baseless’
Justice K Lakshman of the Telangana High Court took on file a writ plea questioning the action of Directorate of Enforcement Vigilance and Disaster Management for issuing challans against the petitioner company alleging unauthorised installations of banners, cutouts, wall posters to median poles, wall writings, garbage dumpings on roads and nala at different locations in the city. The judge on Monday directed the Standing Counsel for GHMC to get instructions by September 9.
The writ petition was filed by Mithril Telecommunications Private Limited. The civic authority imposed fine for alleged 120 offences on the petitioner company and demanded a compounded penalty amount of Rs 5,50,000 towards the same. The petitioner contended that the authorities also threatened to seal the premises of the company in Vanasthalipuram. It was argued by the petitioner that it has paid the previous challans and had undertaken not to install any flexis afresh. The fresh challans were baseless as the petitioner has not made any violations.
