Hyderabad: A two-judge panel of the Telangana High Court comprising Chief Justice Satish Chandra Sharma and Justice Abhinand kumar Shavli refused to stay the release of Amitabh Bachchan starrer Jhund. The petitioner Chinni Prakash sought a stay on the release of the movie. He had earlier filed a civil suit in a District Court seeking stay on the same. The petitioner argued that ]the movie was based on the life of Akhilesh Paul, a football coach.
The Civil Court had granted stay on the matter. However, he compromised with the film makers ]including super cassettes and withdrew the suit on receiving Rs 5 crore. On February 28, he again approached the District Court to withdraw the order of compromise. The court heard at length arguments by senior counsels Chandrasen Reddy and L Ravichander appearing for the movie producers. While the Civil Court reserved its orders, Chinni Prakash moved the High Court on Thursday seeking a direction to stall the release of the film. The panel wondered as to how the petition was maintainable against private parties and refused to interfere with the release of the film.
Petiton withdrawn
The same panel on Thursday allowed closure of a writ petition complaining of the Sahitya National Academy Award to Dr Y Lakshmi Prasad a writer residing in Vishakapatnam. The Sahitya National Academy Award was awarded in 2009 to the writer for the work Draupadi. The petitioner Subramanya Sharma challenged the very decision on the ground that the award-winning book displayed Draupadi in poor light and hurt the sentiments of many. When the panel was on its way to adjudicate on merits, counsel Sanjeev elected to withdraw the petition with liberty to work out the remedies elsewhere.
