Hyderabad: A two-judge Bench of the Telangana High Court comprising Acting Chief Justice MS Ramachandra Rao and Justice T Vinod Kumar on Friday directed the Agriculture and Cooperation (Marketing) Department to furnish details with regard to shifting of Gaddiannaram fruit market. The Bench was dealing with a petition filed by the Wholesale Fruit Commission Agents Association and others challenging the order of the single judge which upheld the decision of the government in shifting the fruit market to Koheda village.
In order to avoid congestion in Jambagh area, the government shifted the fruit market to Gaddiannaram in 1986. The Association contended that they were being illegally shifted to Koheda where no infrastructure was developed. Under the guise of the pandemic, stating that constructing a multi-speciality hospital is imperative, the government is trying to shift the market illegally, the Association said. The government on the other hand said alternative arrangements for the market have been made at HMDA complex Batasingaram until the infrastructure is developed at Koheda. The Bench posted the hearing to September 29.
