Telangana HC seeks State’s response on media accreditation rules

The Telangana High Court has directed the State Government to file its counter affidavit within three weeks in a case challenging the Telangana Media Accreditation Rules, 2025. The petition, filed by the Hi-Tech Print and Electronic Media Association, questions the legality of G.O.Ms.No.252 issued in December 2025.

Hyderabad: Chief Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh and Justice GM Mohiuddin of the Telangana High Court on Tuesday directed the State Government to file its counter affidavit, without fail, within three weeks in a case relating to the rules governing media accreditation cards.

The case arises out of a writ petition filed by Hitech Print and Electronic Media Association, questioning G.O.Ms.No.252 issued by the General Administration (Information and Public Relations) Department on December 22, 2025.

The petitioner has challenged the Telangana Media Accreditation Rules, 2025, contending that several provisions impose unreasonable and discriminatory conditions. Objection has been raised to clauses dealing with eligibility of members of the accreditation committee, eligibility norms for daily newspapers, and the criteria fixed for granting accreditation to print, electronic, digital media, and periodicals.

It was argued that the impugned rules adversely affect media organisations and journalists and curtail their rights. The petitioner has also sought suspension of the Government Order pending disposal of the writ petition.

After hearing the matter briefly, the Division Bench directed the State to place its stand on record within three weeks and posted the case for further consideration.
