Hyderabad: Telangana health profile, a flagship programme of the State government, will be completed within two months and digital health cards will be issued to all the citizens, said Health Minister T Harish Rao here on Saturday. He said the State government was committed to establish a medical and a nursing college in all the 33 districts. Following a request from Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, he assured to establish a medical and a nursing college in Khammam district as per the government policy.
He gave this assurance during discussion on the budget in the State Assembly. To a question from MIM MLA Ahmed Bin Abdullah Balala on the Osmania General Hospital building, the Minister said there was a case pending in the High Court and the government was ready to take up the construction of the hospital soon after the case was settled.

Responding to a question from Congress MLA T Jagga Reddy, Harish Rao said the medical college sanctioned at Sangareddy would start functioning from the upcoming academic year. The building construction is nearing completion and Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao will inaugurate it shortly.
Referring to the allegations of Bhatti Vikramarka on shortage of doctors, the Minister blamed the previous government for not establishing adequate numbers of medical colleges. He pointed out the State government has increased the number of medical colleges from three to 17. It would be further increased to another 16 over the next two years, he said.
He slammed the Central government for only giving awards but failing to provide any support. Despite sanctioning 171 medical colleges across the country, the Centre did not allocate at least one for Telangana. The Centre’s discrimination continued towards Telangana as it shifted WHO Global Centre for Traditional Medicine to Jamnagar in Gujarat within a few days after the union Tourism Minister G Kishan Reddy sought suitable land in the city for setting up the project.
The State government has also responded positively after Kishan Reddy’s request. However, the union Cabinet approved its establishment in Jamnagar in Gujarat, Harish Rao added.
