Hyderabad: The Forest department has taken several measures including a 24-hour helpline to implement the ban on use of synthetic or nylon manja for kite flying and spread awareness among public on the ill-effects of such practice during the Sankranti festival.
The department is organising mobile squads to check sale and purchase of synthetic manja in and around the city. Similar mobile parties have been formed in the districts by local District Forest Officers to implement the ban orders.
To create awareness among people and shop keepers posters have been brought out in English, Telugu and Urdu languages, requesting not to sell or purchase nylon manja.
Forest officials said that due to sustained efforts in implementing the ban since 2016, the sale and use of banned manja has gradually come down and there is more awareness among sellers and buyers.
The Forest department with the help of NGOs and volunteers is ensuring display of posters in the shops to create awareness about the harm caused by these banned substances on animals, birds, humans and environment.
