Telangana: In a first, Kothagudem Police confiscate assets of man caught for ganja smuggling
As he bought all his assets with the money earned through illegal trafficking of ganja, CI Indrasena Reddy seized the illegal assets and bank accounts of accused Sivashankar Reddy
Kothagudem: In a first in the district, the police have confiscated assets of a person caught in a ganja smuggling case under the Julurpad police station limits.
According to an official release, the accused, Duggempudi Sivashankar Reddy of Koyagudem of and Nagendra Babu of Sarapaka, Burgampadu mandal were caught by the Julurpad police on September 8, 2024 while smuggling ganja. A case was registered against them and they were produced before the Kothagudem court, which remanded them.
The main accused, Sivashankar Reddy, built a house on his father Duggampudi Venkata Reddy’s name in Koyagudem gram panchayat in Burgampad mandal with the money he earned through ganja smuggling. He also bought a Toyota Innova car on his mother Duggampudi Yashoda’s name.
He opened savings and current accounts in the State Bank of India branch at Gokul crossroads, KPHB in Hyderabad and conducted transactions through them.
Since he bought the assets with the money earned through illegal trafficking of ganja, CI Indrasena Reddy obtained a freezing order through the Competent Authority, Chennai and seized the illegal assets and bank accounts of Sivashankar Reddy.
Superintendent of Police B Rohith Raju appreciated the Julurpad CI and staff for not only sending those caught smuggling ganja to jail but also confiscating their properties. He said that if anyone was caught smuggling ganja for illegal gain, strict legal action would be taken against them besides confiscating their assets.
