Hyderabad: In terms of overall performance in the healthcare sector, the NITI Aayog has placed Telangana as front-runner for achieving most improvement in the last one-year.
According to the Health Index report of NITI Aayog, which was released here on Monday, only five larger States in the country, which includes Telangana, have demonstrated such strong overall performance as well as the incremental performance.
While Telangana was ranked amongst the top in the overall performance, Uttar Pradesh was ranked last with 19th rank in the overall performance rankings among larger Indian states. However, UP was ranked on top in terms of incremental performance by registering the highest incremental change from the base year of 2018-19 to reference year of 2019-2020. Interestingly, Telangana was the only Indian state that has consistently performed better in overall performance and incremental performance between 2018-19 and 2020.
The vaccination programme being implemented in Telangana also came in for a lot of praise in the NITI Aayog report. “Among the larger states, universal coverage of full immunisation including BCG, three doses of DPT, three doses of OPV and measles was recorded by Telangana, both in 2014-15 and in 2019-20. Among the larger states, the highest percentage of institutional deliveries was recorded by Kerala in 2014-15, which was 96 per cent and Telangana in 2019-20 was 96.3 percent.
The NITI Aayog report also came out with a detailed indicator-wise comparison of Rajasthan, which was the worst performer, and Telangana, which was the best performer in the health rankings. In terms of incremental performance, Telangana had made major gains in the key inputs and processes domain with nearly half the indicators in the fully achieved or most improved or improved category; against 19 per cent for Rajasthan.
