Hyderabad: Prohibition and Excise department V Srinivas Goud here on Tuesday said the liquor shops for the year 2021-23 would be allotted through a draw of lots. The applications would be accepted from November from 9 to 18 and draw of lots would be taken in the presence of district Collectors concerned on November 20. Interacting with media persons here, the Minister said the Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao has taken a historic decision and introduced reservations in allotting wine shops in the State. No other State in the country has introduced such reservations, he said.
Of the 2,620 wine shops, reservations were being implemented in 756 shops. Among these, 363 shops were reserved for Goud community, 262 for SCs and 131 STs. The State government has not revised application or license fee while number of shops was increased slightly compared to neighbouring Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka, he said. One applicant – one shop rule has been abolished and the State government has initiated measures to curb drugs and illicit liquor menace, he said.
Stating that the State government was committed for welfare of all castes and communities, the Minister thanked the Chief Minister for introducing reservations in allotting liquor shops, he said.
He said Preventive Detention (PD) Act would be invoked against drug peddlers and persons who are cultivating marijuana. He added efforts were on to curb the sale of spurious toddy in the State.
If necessary, the assistance of the Central government would be taken to contain the menace of drugs, which is smuggled from ports and airports.
