Warangal: As the United States celebrates its 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 2026, an internationally acclaimed micro sculptor from Warangal in Telangana, Ajay Kumar Mattewada has created something remarkable to monumentalize the occasion.
The micro artist created a micro sculpture featuring the Statue of Liberty, the USA 250 logo and the United States national flag (USA 250) inside the eye of a needle to add brilliance to the United States Semiquincentennial being celebrated all across the US by its citizens.
The original neoclassical copper sculpture Statue of Liberty, a universal symbol of freedom, stands 93 meters tall on Liberty Island in New York Harbour. In contrast, Ajay Kumar’s micro sculpture measures only 0.93 millimeters in height, making it approximately 10,000 times smaller than the original monument.
Speaking to Telangana Today Ajay Kumar informed that the original micro sculpture was created in 2018 and required approximately 130 hours of meticulous work over a period of three months.
To commemorate the 250th Anniversary of American Independence he enhanced the artwork by adding the USA 250 logo and the United States national flag in miniature form. The miniature flag features 13 stripes (seven red and six white) and 50 white stars, crafted with extraordinary precision and clarity.
It might be recalled that in 2024, Ajay Kumar won first prize in the India–US Space Cooperation Visual Art Competition 2024 organised by the US Consulate General, Hyderabad. He won the prize for his minuscule art work, wherein he expertly sculpted Indian and US astronauts standing on the moon.
He was subsequently invited as a Special Guest to the 248th U.S. Independence Day celebrations hosted by the US Consulate General in Hyderabad, where he was honoured with an award by the then US Consul General Jennifer Larson in recognition of his outstanding artistic achievement.
