Peddapalli: A mother and daughter were charred to death while they were asleep after a fire broke out in their home in Ramnagar under Ratnapur gram panchayat on Monday night.

Both Kaluvala Pochamma (60) and her daughter Gaddam Komuramma (40) died in their sleep as they were trapped by flames that were triggered reportedly by a short circuit.

According to police, Pochamma from Mulkalapalli of Kamanpur mandal and Kamuramma of Ramnagar were working in a biryani centre. As both of them were fasting during the day on Monday, Komuramma took her mother to her home to have dinner after work in the night. After dinner, both of them slept on the same bed by switching on an aircooler. It is suspected that a fire broke out due to a short circuit in the cooler and flames spread all over the house. Besides Pochamma and Komuramma, a dog and hen also died in the fire accident.

Both the women were found dead when Komuramma’s husband Kanakaiah came to home after work around 11 pm. Police were informed about the incident around 2 am.

Godavarikhani ACP M Ramesh, Manthani CI B Raju Goud and other officials visited the spot in the morning and enquired about the incident. Based on the complaint lodged by Pochamma’s son Shankar, police registered a case and began investigation.

Since a dog also died in the incident, police informed the matter to mandal veterinary doctor Durga Prasad, who collected the samples of the dog and sent them to the forensic lab in Hyderabad.

Pochamma has three sons and two daughters and Komuramma was the second daughter. She was married to Kanakaiah from Huzurabad.
